Hayabusa Karate was founded and developed by Valentyna Zolotarova, a WKF-certified coach and BC Certified Teacher, bringing together international karate experience, coaching expertise and an understanding of how children, teenagers and adults learn and develop. This philosophy guides the program and the instructors who deliver it.

Why Choose Hayabusa Karate in Vancouver?

Training for Kids, Teens & Women

Kids, teens and women train together during the same scheduled Hayabusa Karate classes, while receiving differentiated instruction appropriate to their age, experience, ability and individual goals.

Students may be working on different techniques, levels of complexity or performance expectations within the same class. This allows beginners to develop strong foundations while more experienced students continue to be challenged and progress.

The result is a shared training environment with individualized development rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Kids Karate in Vancouver

Children receive age- and level-appropriate instruction designed to develop karate fundamentals, coordination, confidence, focus and physical literacy.

Beginners can work on foundational movements and skills while more experienced children are given increasingly challenging technical and physical tasks. Progress is based on the individual student’s development rather than expecting every child in the class to perform at the same level.

Karate for Teens in Vancouver

Teenagers train within the same Hayabusa environment while receiving instruction appropriate to their stage of development and experience.

Training can include increasingly advanced karate technique, speed, strength, fitness, tactical development and goal setting. Students who want a greater challenge can progress toward more advanced or performance-oriented work while continuing to train alongside the wider Hayabusa community.

Karate for Women in Vancouver

Women are welcome to train alongside the other members of the Hayabusa community, including those beginning karate for the first time.

Instruction is adapted to each student’s experience, fitness level and goals. Women can progressively develop karate technique, fitness, coordination, confidence and practical skills without needing previous martial arts experience or a particular level of fitness before starting.

One Class. Different Levels. Individual Progress.

Hayabusa’s approach recognizes that students learn and develop differently. A child beginning karate, an experienced teenager and an adult woman may participate in the same class while working at different levels and receiving different expectations, feedback and challenges.

Our instructors differentiate instruction so that students can train together while continuing to progress according to their own stage of development.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are kids, teens and women in separate karate classes?

No. Kids, teens and women train within the same Hayabusa Karate class while receiving differentiated instruction based on age, experience, ability and individual goals.

Students may work on different techniques, levels of complexity or performance expectations during the same session. This allows beginners and more experienced students to train together while progressing at an appropriate level.

Do beginners need previous karate experience?

No. Beginners are welcome.

Students are introduced to karate progressively and receive instruction appropriate to their current level. You do not need previous martial arts experience, advanced fitness or knowledge of karate terminology before getting started.

What age can children start karate?

Readiness can vary from child to child. Students should be able to participate safely in a structured group environment, follow age-appropriate instructions and engage with the activities.

If you are unsure whether the program is suitable for your child, contact Hayabusa Karate with your child’s age and we can help determine whether the current class is a good fit.

Are the classes suitable for shy or less athletic children?

Yes. Students begin with different personalities, confidence levels, coordination and physical abilities.

Hayabusa’s differentiated approach allows children to work at an appropriate level while gradually developing karate skills, coordination, fitness, confidence and independence. Students are encouraged to progress from their own starting point rather than being expected to perform at the same level as everyone else.

Can women join with no previous martial arts experience?

Absolutely. Women are welcome to begin karate with no previous experience.

Instruction is adapted to each student’s level, allowing beginners to progressively develop technique, coordination, fitness and confidence while training within the wider Hayabusa community.

What should I or my child expect at the first class?

New students are introduced gradually to the training environment and class structure. Depending on their experience, they may work on fundamental karate movements, coordination, fitness activities and introductory techniques.

Beginners are not expected to already know karate techniques or terminology. Instructors provide guidance and differentiate activities according to the student’s age, experience and ability.

What should a new student wear?

If you do not yet have a karate uniform, you can wear comfortable sports clothing.

There is no need to purchase a uniform or equipment for the first class.

Our instructors can provide guidance based on the individual student’s stage of development and objectives.

Is karate good for confidence and self-discipline?

Confidence and self-discipline develop over time through consistent practice, progressive achievement and learning to work through increasingly challenging tasks.

Do you offer competitive karate training?
